Helping people navigate tough situations is the guiding principle of Jennifer Porter’s professional career.

For more than 18 years, before joining Maddox & Gerock, Jennifer Porter built a career and reputation as an accomplished trial attorney, having litigated cases in all of the Circuit Courts and General District Courts of Northern Virginia, including Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, Frederick, Stafford and Warren County, as well as the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia. In addition, she knows that the best result is most often achieved by settlement, and she has resolved hundreds of cases by settlement and mediation.

Starting with the desire to help people navigate difficult legal situations which affect them personally, Jennifer devoted her practice for many years to personal injury, wrongful death and medical malpractice litigation, representing people dealing with unfortunate and stressful situations involving their health, finances and livelihood, all of which had been turned upside down due to no fault of their own. Now, in joining Maddox & Gerock, Jennifer continues in her mission to help others, using her experience in and out of the courtroom to advise and represent husbands, wives and families in all aspects of family law, including divorce, equitable distribution, spousal support, child support, child custody, and visitation.

Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, and she spent her last year of law school at American University, Washington College of Law, as a visiting student. She is a committed member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (VTLA), in which she also serves on the VTLA Women’s Leadership Caucus, VTLA Business Partners Committee, and the VTLA Membership Committee. She is also active with the Fairfax Bar Association (FBA), in which she currently serves as a member of the Circuit Court Committee and the Domestic Relations Sub-Committee. She was also a member of the Board of Directors, and then President, of the FBA Young Lawyers Section. Jennifer has received the prestigious AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating of her legal ability and professional ethics from the Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating system for members of the legal profession and carries a Avvo Rating 10/10, also based on reviews from her peers. Jennifer is licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia and California.

In addition to her professional career, Jennifer is committed to her local community, serving in several community organizations and as a Girl Scouts leader. Jennifer is also a proud US Navy military spouse and mother to three school-aged daughters, and she can frequently be found at the soccer field, swimming pool or PTA meeting. She is active with the Naval Officer’s Spouse’s Club and the Military Officers Association of America. She is also a member of the Church of the Nativity in Burke, Virginia, where she volunteers in the Religious Education program and is a member of the Women of Nativity.
