Earlier today (7/27/14), the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond struck down the Commonwealth’s statewide ban on same-sex marriage as unconstitutional. States impacted include Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. The Court stated, “We recognize that same-sex marriage makes some people deeply uncomfortable. However, inertia and apprehension are not legitimate bases for denying same-sex couples due process and equal protection of the laws.”
