On June 17, 2014, the Court of Appeals of Virginia issued a ruling in Russell v. Russell which may very well change the way we request relief in our pleadings, specifically, in Answers to Complaints and Counter-Complaints for Divorce. On appeal, the court held that that wife could not be awarded spousal support because her Complaint for Divorce had been struck and her Answer to her former husband’s Counter-Claim did not specifically request such support.
